The redevelopment of the Left Bank in Paris is leading to major roadworks operations. We stopped off at the Quai Panhard et Levassor, where a team had installed a storm sewer. A rare occurrence in the capital.
" Over a length of almost 300 metres, we have installed a cast-in-place sewer one metre and forty centimetres wide, the purpose of which is to collect water from the future neighbourhood near the Grande Bibliothèque. " explains Thierry Bilien, the works supervisor in charge of the project.
Most Parisian sewers are combined and ovoid in shape, but the ‘environmental’ policy pursued by Parisian authorities is increasingly leading to the choice of sewer systems that separate wastewater and rainwater.
Concrete pouring (approx. 20m3 per day) is carried out on a continuous basis, using KRINGS sliding shoring panels which, in addition to their primary safety function, also act as formwork. Conventional sheet piling was not an option, as the struts would have interfered with the installation of reinforcement and internal formwork. Once the invert has been poured, the frames are put in place and the walls can be poured.
